Officine Arduino, open hardware gains points in Italy

It designs and produces microcontrollers using a single board. This is a hardware which has an open-source hardware board.

Officine Arduino has earned experience and reputation in Italy. For example, it was the firm that promoted Fablab Torino, a workshop that designs digital fabrications, which is situated in Turin, Italy and founded back in the year 2012.

Officine Arduino provides financial support to start up and young firms.

It provides low cost microcontroller. Startup firms find this useful since at the inception, one of the most important tools is an efficient and affordable hardware and software.

What started small in Italy as a way of solving a problem to the locals has found its irresistible usefulness to the rest of the world. Arduino was started by three people; Massimo Banzi, Gianluca Martino and David Cuirtielles.

Massimo was a teacher in design at Ivrea and wanted to create a cheap and strong microprocessor that would help his students in their projects in robot design. Cuartielles was an engineer in microchip whereas Mellis was Massimo’s student. They produced a small quantity of the board’s units which were surprisingly consumed within a short time. When the three knew that this product was in demand in Italy and other parts of the world, they converted the production into a business. The units were widely used to make robots. Other engineers borrowed the knowledge to come up with models of pilotless airplanes. Additionally, other vehicle engineers used the knowledge to develop vehicle engines that could serve more distance.

With their support, Fablab Torino was able to pick up in Italy within short period of time. They were able to organize a presentation in 2014 marked their potential and demonstration of what Officine Arduino had positively impacted on them. The first Torino Mini Maker Faire was organized by three firms. These firms are Officine Arduino, Fablab Torino and Toolbox Coworking in May 2014.

. The Arduino circuit board is very popular among consumers in Italy. Within the first two years of its operations, it recorded an outstanding 50000 sales units in Italy and other parts of the world. This company was recently founded and the presence of other experienced manufacturers in the market. This therefore clearly demonstrates its potential and customers’ trust. It’s interesting that all these trade secrets are found in the company’s website for any entrepreneur or company to get for free. The free Arduino board system can be downloaded by anyone whenever they are in the world to make similar boards.

The hardware has solved a problem that existed. Before this invention, there existed systems that were unaffordable, complex and less efficient. However, today, the problem is no longer there. Any open system can utilize Officine Arduino’s easily. Sharing of the system allows customers and businesses to make more developments and increase its popularity.

This is unimaginable. Imagine showing your competitors your trade secrets at no charge! Its common knowledge that such a practice in business will definitely invite high competition which in turn may reduce the profit margin. However, this has helped a large number of customers in Italy and the world.
